What's your job about?
Reckitt is a fast-moving consumer goods company that produces, markets and sells household cleaning products. My role is a National Account Manager for our Pine O Cleen, Air Wick and Glen 20 products in all Woolworths stores. I work directly with Woolworths Head Office to manage our range, sell in new products, plan our promotions and work on in-store activations.
What's your background?
I’ve lived in Sydney my entire life, growing up in the Inner West and then when to uni at Sydney University. I didn’t get to go on exchange but I travelled every single uni holidays to make up for it! I’ve worked part-time since I was 14 years old, in a bunch of fast food, receptionist and supermarket jobs. I started as an Intern at Reckitt in my last year of uni – I applied for a Summer program through my university job board, and ended up staying on for the rest of the year as an Intern part-time while I kept studying. I ended up coming on as a grad the day after my final exam!
Could someone with a different background do your job?
Yes absolutely! You start off with no expectations. There are definitely benefits from learning Marketing basics at University, but you can definitely learn everything on the job. The main thing you need is a good attitude and willingness to learn.
What's the coolest thing about your job?
Being able to see the real impact of your work in real life is definitely the coolest part of the job. Walking into store and seeing our newest range or activation, or even seeing our ads on TV can be pretty fulfilling.
What are the limitations of your job?
Reckitt is a company that gives its employees a lot of responsibility and autonomy. Although this is great for learning, this can apply a lot of pressure and hours can be long during busy periods.
