Successful candidates will also need a security clearance. The level of clearance will depend on which pathway you are accepted into.
If you’re offered a position in a high-security environment, you will likely need to undertake a psychological assessment. They type of assessment depends on which area of Defence you're accepted into.

Please note: If you apply for the Intelligence Pathway you will have to complete extra suitability tests. This may extend the time before you find out the outcome of your application.
Competitive salary and benefits
All successful candidates will commence the Graduate Program on a salary of $79,176 plus 15.4% superannuation (increasing to $81,868 in March 2026).
If you successfully complete the Program, you will advance to a higher salary. The salary increase depends on which training pathway is completed.

Comprehensive learning and development
You will experience a tailored learning and development program, that is grounded in foundational, social and experiential learning. The Defence Graduate Core Training Program (CTP) is designed to equip graduates with a series of key APS core skills and capabilities. The CTP adopts a blended learning approach with live-learning workshops and pre and post workshop activities.
